FRESNO, Calif. – Independent mattress producer Pleasant Mattress will provide new mattresses for the three transitional living homes operated by Fresno-based Centers for Living, which serves men and women battling substance abuse, homelessness, and related issues. The 36 new mattresses and bed frames will be used primarily by adults when they initially enter the group’s transitional living program and are evaluated for a wide range of physical, psychological, financial, legal and spiritual needs.

“The Centers for Living is widely recognized for its innovative, high-accountability approach to transitional living, and we are proud to partner with the organization for the first time,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “This is core to our mission of helping our community become better and the beginning of a long-term partnership that will help improve the lives of struggling men and women in our community. What better way to support positive change and healthy living than providing a good night’s sleep on a comfortable mattress?”

Founded in 2018, the organization assists with all aspects of living to ensure that residents leave with the life skills necessary to live independently, stay sober and make positive contributions to society. Since its founding last year, Centers for Living sites have worked with 55 people throughout the Fresno area.

“We are very grateful to Pleasant Mattress for this much-needed donation,” said John Coyle, founder and CEO of Centers for Living. “A critical part of our mission involves showing our residents respect and dignity while gaining their trust, and a big part of that effort is accomplished by offering them a clean, quiet comfortable place to sleep.”

The partnership with Centers for Living is the latest in a long line of charitable endeavors undertaken by Pleasant Mattress. Earlier this year, the company donated pillows for a student pillow fight on the campus of Fresno State University to highlight the need for quality sleep. Last year, the Pleasant Mattress donated proceeds from its semi-annual warehouse sales to the Marjaree Mason Center, which supports women and children affected by domestic violence, and the Poverello House, which provides food, clothing and temporary shelter to needy and homeless men and women. The company also has donated new mattresses for a number of homes built by Habitat for Humanity in northern and southern California.

Pleasant Mattress is an independent, family-owned mattress supplier in the Western United States. The company employs 140 people and has been in business since 1959 when it was founded as the Pleasant Bag Co. The company, owner of the luxury McRoskey mattress brand, is a licensee and manufacturer of the Spring Air, Eclipse International and Eastman House brands. The company produces traditional mattresses and specialty sleep products in its 150,000-square-foot facility in Fresno, California.
