FRESNO, Calif. – Pleasant Mattress recently held a warehouse sale to help a local organization that supports adults and children affected by domestic violence.

The Friends and Family sale, held here at the headquarters of the independent mattress manufacturer, was a five-hour event featuring closeouts, overstock merchandise and other one-of-a-kind mattresses at wholesale prices and below.

The company is donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale to the Marjaree Mason Center, a Fresno non-profit that operates two “safe houses” for domestic violence victims, and provides support services such as counseling, legal assistance, education and training. Founded in 1979, the organization is named after a Fresno woman who was kidnapped and murdered by an ex-boyfriend. It is overseen by an 18-person board of directors made up of community leaders in medicine, law enforcement, education and business.

“Part of our core mission is to make a positive difference in our Fresno based community,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “These warehouse sales allow us to provide cash support for great organizations supporting Fresno and the greater community. This is our third warehouse sale. We plan to hold these events twice a year and select a beneficiary partner area each time.”

Pleasant Mattress selects organizations based on nominations from its employees and the community. Its most recent sale in April benefited Poverello House, a Fresno non-profit that provides food, clothing and temporary shelter to needy and homeless men and women.

“Our employees know importance of a great mattress to a great night of sleep,” said Morgenstern. “Our staff really enjoys helping people get a great mattress and supporting our community at the same time. Most people come with a truck and go home with a great mattress. Our staff will help them get it loaded and on their way.”
