CHELSEA, Mass. – Top 20 mattress manufacturer Spring Air International has significantly expanded its longstanding licensing agreement with Fresno, Calif.-based Pleasant Mattress Co., giving the privately held manufacturer the rights to produce and sell Spring Air products in all 13 western states.

Pleasant Mattress, a Spring Air licensee since 2009, now holds the largest Spring Air territory of the brand’s 10 domestic licensees, officials said.

Prior to the expanded agreement, Pleasant Mattress held rights to manufacture, market and distribute the Spring Air brand throughout California and Arizona. The new partnership adds Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Alaska and Hawaii to its licensing territory. The new agreement includes all Spring Air products, from the high-end Chattam & Wells to the flagship Back Supporter lines, officials said.

“Pleasant has been a terrific partner for Spring Air for nearly a decade,” said Nick Bates, president of Spring Air. “Its commitment to quality and service to customers is legendary, and it has been an active part of our committee structure since we formed them last year. This expanded partnership with Pleasant solidifies our strategic plan to grow Spring Air with quality manufacturers who are committed to building the brand in their markets.”

Founded in 1959 as Pleasant Bag Company, family-owned Pleasant Mattress operates a 150,000-square-foot factory in Fresno, where it produces mattresses and specialty sleep products.

“Spring Air is an integral part of our business strategy to grow our business throughout the Western U.S.,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “Its culture is very similar to ours, the new branding strategy is spot on, and its new product line resonates with our customers. When these additional states became available, we were anxious to add them to our territory.”

The deal is the third new licensing agreement signed by Spring Air International in recent months. Earlier this year, the company signed agreements with Johnson City, Tennessee-based Johnson City Bedding for the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, and Houston-based Continental Silverline Products for the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
