FRESNO, Calif. – Pleasant Mattress has acquired the production, distribution and marketing rights to San Francisco-based factory-direct McRoskey Mattress, officials said.

Under terms of the transaction, Pleasant will begin production of McRoskey products in January 2019 at its manufacturing campus in California and will handle new product development, sales and marketing responsibilities for the brand nationally, officials said.

Robin Azevedo, 77, the third-generation McRoskey family member who joined the company in 1980, will become brand ambassador and oversee the company’s three retail showrooms in the San Francisco area, including its flagship location on Market Street.

“McRoskey is a wonderful brand with enormous potential in the growing luxury sleep products category,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “As we continue to grow Pleasant in to a brand portfolio leader, we were looking for a unique luxury offering like this that we could market to select, high-quality retailers throughout the country. The rich 120-year heritage of McRoskey gives us an enormous edge over other competitors who say they understand luxury craftsmanship. We will continue that legacy of quality, hand-craftsmanship, but broaden the number of products and its geographic reach.”

“I have known Rion’s father, Herb, for many years and have long respected the quality, service and family values of their company,” said Azevedo. “Pleasant is a well-respected manufacturer, has a strong leadership team, and I know they will support the brand.

“When I made the decision to transition out of the manufacturing portion of the business, there was no better company to work with in my mind. In the time we have been working together to plan for the transition and the future of our company, I have been excited about Rion’s vision and commitment to our customers and the opportunities for future growth.”

Pleasant is retrofitting a 25,000-square-foot building on its Fresno campus to handle the manufacturing needs of the McRoskey brand. The new space will also include a showroom for national accounts to see the line, officials said.

McRoskey currently operates three retail showrooms, the Market Street flagship location and one each in Palo Alto and San Rafael. Its current sales staff and customer service teams will remain in place.

McRoskey has been making luxury sleep products since 1899. Brothers Edward and Leonard McRoskey started the business in San Francisco, and Edward’s granddaughter, Robin Azevedo, joined the business in 1980.

The brand has long promoted “Life Changing Sleep” and uses the finest materials and high-level craftsmanship in a variety of comfort feels, company officials said.

Pleasant Mattress is an independent, family-owned and operated mattress manufacturer serving the Western United States.
