Pleasant Mattress’ new mattress donation will help complete four Habitat for Humanity homes for families in the greater Los Angeles area. The company donated 10 new mattresses to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) to provide each person in the homes with new, healthy sleep surfaces throughout the homes soon to be completed in Montebello, Calif.

The donation was part of the company’s The Premiere 2017 recently hosted to celebrate its retail and vendor partners, new product, and strategy for this year. Ivania Duarte and her three children were in attendance to accept the donation on behalf of the four families moving in later this year.

The Duarte family of four currently lives in a two-bedroom apartment adjacent to a power plant, as well as a waste management plant. The exhaust from the factories makes it difficult to breathe, and the apartment is in need of plumbing repairs.

“Of course, we’re excited about our new home, but Pleasant Mattress’ donation of new, comfortable mattresses is beyond belief,” Duarte said. “Knowing that we’ll have clean, new beds to sleep in is just one more generous act of kindness. I truly believe that the good foundation to a child’s education and well-being is a good night’s sleep. We’ll definitely be able to accomplish that now with the new beds.”

In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, The Duarte family has invested 500 hours of sweat equity in their own home and the homes of others before moving in.

“We are honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity, their mission and integrity aligns with our culture at Pleasant Mattress.” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “Often, we take for granted the comforts of a warm, comfortable place to sleep and a roof over our heads. Being able to meet the needs of four families in the Montebello community means a lot to our entire organization.”

The four-home community is expected to be ready for move-in this summer, and Erin Rank, president and CEO for Habitat LA, said the donation ensures a healthy beginning for each of the families.

“We appreciate Pleasant Mattress’ commitment to our mission of creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” Rank said. “Without our donors, partners and volunteers, we would be unable to fulfill our work of partnering with low-income families to achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership.”
